Ocular Genetics and Inherited Eye Diseases

Genetic research is transforming the understanding and management of inherited eye diseases and rare visual disorders. This session explores genetic mechanisms associated with retinal dystrophies, optic neuropathies, corneal disorders, congenital conditions, and other hereditary eye diseases. Advances in genetic testing, molecular diagnostics, genomic medicine, and genetic counseling will be discussed. Particular attention will be given to identifying disease-causing variants and understanding their clinical significance. Emerging gene-based treatments and precision therapies may provide new possibilities for previously difficult-to-treat conditions. Researchers will discuss the challenges of translating genetic discoveries into clinical practice. Collaboration among ophthalmologists, geneticists, molecular researchers, and biotechnology experts will be encouraged.
