Gene Therapy, Cell Therapy and Regenerative Ophthalmology

Rapid advances in molecular biology and regenerative medicine are creating new possibilities for treating previously difficult-to-manage eye diseases. This session explores gene therapy, cell-based therapies, tissue engineering, stem-cell research, and regenerative approaches in ophthalmology. Discussions will include inherited retinal disorders, optic nerve conditions, corneal diseases, and retinal degeneration. Researchers will examine emerging therapeutic strategies, delivery systems, safety considerations, and clinical development pathways. Regenerative approaches designed to restore damaged ocular tissues may offer new possibilities for preserving or recovering vision. The session will also address challenges related to treatment durability, immune responses, patient selection, and long-term monitoring. Collaboration between ophthalmologists, geneticists, biotechnology companies, and regenerative medicine researchers will be encouraged.
